Roy Keane Claims Paul Pogba And Cristiano Ronaldo Need To ‘Turn Up’ For Euro 2020
Ronaldo will captain Portugal at the tournament as Fernando Santos’ men aim to capture back-to-back European Championship titles.
The 2016 Euro winners are in the so-called ‘Group of Death’ with Hungary, Germany and 2018 World Cup champions France.
France manager Didier Deschamps will expect Pogba to perform at his best in midfield as Les Bleus enter Euro 2020 as one of the favourites.
Speaking in Sky Bet’s Road to Wembley series, Keane insisted that Ronaldo isn’t “getting any younger” as questions have been raised about the Portugal captain’s future.
The 49-year-old Irishman told Micah Richards: “Obviously he’s not getting any younger, and obviously he’s had a difficult spell at Juventus.
“Is he past it at 34? That’s the question mark, I think the guy could turn up and he’ll do the business. He’s not the main man coming into the tournament, is he?
“How can he not be the main man with what he’s done in the game? I’d love for Ronaldo to turn up.”
Pogba is set to play a central role in France’s midfield alongside the likes of Chelsea star N’Golo Kante.
Keane revealed that he liked the 28-year-old United star as a player, but he suggested that they were different “in the way he leads his life [to me].”
The former United captain explained: “Let’s see if Pogba turns up. I like Paul as a player, simple as that.
“From what I hear a decent human being a good character. Slightly different to me in the way he leads his life.”
